Privacy Policy for PaperNest

PaperNest is designed to keep your receipt content on your device.

Information handled by the app

When you choose to use these features, the app handles:

  • receipt photos, images, or PDF files you select;
  • receipt details such as merchant name, date, amount, and group;
  • reports and image exports you explicitly create; and
  • local diagnostic logs used to help identify app errors.

How information is used

Receipt images and details are used only to provide the app’s receipt scanning, organization, editing, reporting, and export features. Text recognition runs on the device. The app does not require an account and does not send receipt images, extracted text, financial details, or local diagnostic logs to the developer or Google.

ML Kit diagnostics

PaperNest uses Google ML Kit for on-device text recognition. Google states that ML Kit may collect device and app information, a per-installation identifier, performance metrics, API configuration and input/output sizes, feature events, and error codes for diagnostics and usage analytics. This diagnostic data is encrypted in transit, and Google states that it is not shared with third parties. Receipt images, recognized text, and recognition results are not sent to Google servers.

Permissions

  • Camera: used only when you choose to photograph a receipt.
  • File access on older Android versions: used only to save a camera image or an export you request. On newer Android versions, the system document picker provides access only to files you select.

You can deny optional permissions in Android settings. Camera capture will be unavailable without camera permission, but you can still choose existing files.

Storage, retention, and deletion

Receipts, images, settings, and diagnostic logs are stored locally in the app’s private storage. CSV reports and receipt-image ZIP archives are stored in the destination selected in app settings. You can delete individual receipts or use Clear All Saved Receipts in settings. Uninstalling the app removes its private local data; files you exported outside the app may remain until you delete them.

Android cloud backup is disabled for this app.

Sharing and selling

The app does not sell personal information. The app does not share receipt content with the developer, advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties. Files leave the app only when you explicitly export or share them using Android features. ML Kit diagnostic collection is described above.

Children’s privacy

PaperNest is a general-audience productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13.

Changes

This policy may be updated when the app’s features or legal obligations change. The effective date above will be revised when changes are published.
